Youth injured after farmer shoots him with illegal gun in Dindigul | Chennai News
DINDIGUL: An 18-year-old Scheduled Tribe youth was injured after a farmer shot at him with an illegal gun when the youth allegedly tried to steal fruits from his farm in the early hours of Sunday in Dindigul district.
According to the police, the injured youth was identified as Vellaiyan, 18, of Thalakadai near Sirumalai in Dindigul. The boy reportedly often got into quarrels with Xavier, 65, of Thavasimadai, who owned a farm at Thalakadai, with the latter accusing Vellaiyan of stealing fruits from his farm.
Police said that at around 3 am on Sunday, Xavier found Vellaiyan wandering in his farm and the two of them had an argument.As their argument escalated, Xavier is said to have pulled out an illegal gun and shot Vellaiyan on his back near his neck. The injured youth was admitted to Dindigul govt medical college hospital by his family and later referred to Govt Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for treatment.
The Dindigul Taluk police registered a case and were investigating. The accused farmer, Xavier, was meanwhile absconding.
