WWE World Heavyweight champion Gunther opened up about the match that he felt he needed the most in the company. The wrestler is currently in his second run as World Heavyweight Champion, after defeating Damian Priest for the belt at SummerSlam.
However, he named two wrestlers who he connects with the most in the ring and it’s none other than Ilja Dragunov and the Celtic Warrior, Shaemus.

Gunther talks about the two WWE wrestlers he connects with the most in the ring

On a brand new episode of Busted Open Radio, Gunther spoke about his rivals in the world of professional wrestling. While his history with Shaemus began in this company itself, Dragunov and him crossed paths in the European circuit in th xWx in Germany.
When speaking about these two wrestlers, he said, “Ilja [Dragunov]. I have a few guys I really click with, and kind of in a different way bring it out of me, but Sheamus is definitely one that in WWE, I was like, ‘That’s the match you need to have first,’ because that guy, he doesn’t care. He just loves to lay it in. He just loves to feel it. And as long as that’s in the right places, there’s no issue with that.”
He further added, “I was ahead a little bit [in my career], but we wrestled each other, so [Dragunov] was kind of like a protege a little bit too. I helped him out a little bit. So it’s a different dynamic that we have with that one.”
Although Gunther and Shaemus have had a long standing rivalry, it’s unlikely that the Celtic Warrior will get a shot at the title at this point in time. The both have battled for extensive periods for the Intercontinental Title, but Gunther has always come out on top in those bouts.
As for his next WWE World Heavyweight Championship title defense, Gunther will go up against Randy Orton in the WWE Bash in Berlin. Although it’s unlikely that he’ll concede the title within a few weeks of him winning it, fans can expect to see a spectacular encounter, and a few RKOs outta nowhere!!
