Manchester United interim manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy opened up on his relationship with former United manager Erik ten Hag, following the 54-year-old’s dismissal from the Mancunian club.
Ten Hag had his contract with the Old Trafford club terminated after worrisome form and a string of sub-par results culminating in a 2-1 loss to West Ham.
Van Nistelrooy, who stepped in as United look to find a suitable permanent replacement for the role of the gaffer expressed his disappointment with the fortune of his compatriot and reflected on the conversations the duo had before the club-legend returned to OT in a coaching role.

“I talked to Erik,” Van Nistelrroy said.
“And of course it is disappointing,” he said reflecting on ten Hag’s contract termination.
“We met over the summer for our conversation to get me back to United,” the 48-year-old reminisced.
“What struck me most was his care for the club. And he wanted to bring it forward,” he added.

The former striker reiterated how the dismissal of the former Ajax gaffer felt rather profound to him personally.
“It is sad to see him leave,” the Dutchman said.
“You need the next day and the days after to recover from that,” he added.
Van Nistelrooy helms the Red Devils as the management go in search of a permanent solution for the vacant job and Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim holds the pole position in the race to the hottest job in club football.
