Village head among four booked for obstructing Dalit’s funeral in Uttar Pradesh’s Khatoli | Agra News

NEW DELHI: Police in Khatoli, Uttar Pradesh, have filed a case against four individuals, including a village head, for allegedly disrupting a Dalit man’s funeral procession and making casteist slurs.
The incident occurred in Bhensi village on November 9th, following the death of a Dalit man named Baburam. According to a complaint filed by Sonia, a group led by village head Amit Ahlavat obstructed the funeral procession to the village crematorium.
“As per the complaint when the body was being carried to the village crematorium, a group led by village head Amit Ahlavat obstructed the last rites, making derogatory remarks against the Dalit community,” said Circle Officer Ramashish Yadav.
Police intervention was required to ensure the cremation could proceed on the same day. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, addressing caste-based discrimination and atrocities. The police are currently investigating the matter.
