‘Tweeting from US’: Revanth Reddy jabs at KTR amid Telangana flood crisis | India News
NEW DELHI: The Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy took a jab at former minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader, K T Rama Rao, commonly referred to as KTR, sparking a war of words between the two leaders as the state dealt with the aftermath of severe floods.
The chief minister slammed the BRS leaders for attacking the state government’s handling of the flood crisis, stating that the politics of mudslinging should not be played during such times.CM Reddy without directly naming KTR and Chandrasekhar Rao said that one leader is tweeting from the United States while the other is at a farmhouse. He criticised the BRS working president, accusing him of “speaking only on Twitter” while on his visit to the US.
He further noted that Rama Rao went to Delhi with 20 MLAs to seek bail, but did not take the time to console flood victims.”He (Chandrasekhar Rao) does not come out of his farmhouse and does not break his silence. Why is he maintaining silence, I don’t know. I feel he does not require the status of main opposition leader for remaining silent,” he said.
“You (Rama Rao) are not even in the country and you say that ministers are not to be seen on the ground in Khammam district when the ministers are among the people since the last two days,” he added.
This comes after KTR, who is also the son of party leader and former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao earlier questioned the Congress government’s inability to arrange helicopters for rescue operations in the state and contrasted the situation with neighboring Andhra Pradesh, where chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu successfully deployed six helicopters and ten boats to aid in rescue efforts.
Sharing a post on X, KTR criticised the government’s handling of the flood situation across Telangana and said: “Appalling attitude by the government in handling the flood situation across the state! Situation in Khammam is even worse. There are three ministers from Khammam region but zero help to the people there. Tired of the apathy, public took to streets. They are demanding basic assistance and help.”
“6 rescue helicopters and 150 rescue boats being used by neighbouring Andhra Pradesh @ncbn government. Guess how many helicopters and boats our Telangana CM was able to manage to save lives? A BIG ZERO,” the BRS leader wrote in a separate post on X.
Earlier, CM Reddy had announced a Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia payment to the families of those who lost their lives in the floods. He said, “we have released funds of Rs. 5 crore to the district for immediate assistance. 5 lakhs to the families of the victims. 50 thousand if cattle die. In case of crop damage, we have given instructions for compensation of Rs.10 thousand per acre.”
KTR criticised them for announcing a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for flood victims, reminding them of their demand for Rs 25 lakh compensation while in opposition. “You demanded ? 25 lakh compensation while in opposition. Now will you give ? 5 lakh and throw up your hands?,” he asked.
