Maresca hopes to replicate the success he had at Leicester, with his side, Chelsea, as he prepares to kick off an important chapter of his managerial career.
Newly appointed Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca seems to have already prepared his strategy for the upcoming campaign. Maresca, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino, recently spoke about his new job in an interview with the London-based club. The Chelsea hierarchy decided to axe Pochetinno after the team finished sixth in the Premier League table last season. The Argentine manager spent only one season at the Stamford Bridge and failed to bring any silverware. Maresca is expected to turn things around this time.
Under his guidance, Leicester City gained promotion from the Championship last season. Maresca hopes to replicate the success with Chelsea as he prepares to kick off an important chapter of his managerial career. The Italian head coach wants to continue with his signature strategy of attacking football, which has helped Leicester City return to the English top tier.
“I think every manager has their own idea or style. Mine is quite clear. Last year was very good but that is finished. It is a new chapter, a new squad, and a new club. I’m very happy to be here. We are going to try to be an aggressive team on and off the ball and we need to create this connection between the fans and the club, especially at home,” Maresca said during his interview on the club website.
Maresca further offered some insights into his work procedure. He will first try to “analyse what the club and team needs to improve” before proceeding. “For me, it’s clear we need to create as soon as possible the right mentality and culture, a culture that the fans can be proud of. This is very important,” the 44-year-old added.
Maresca also urged Chelsea fans to trust “the process, trust the idea, and be behind the team.” “For sure we are going to enjoy the journey. Like at every club, for every manager, it will not be easy because nothing is easy. But for sure we are going to enjoy our journey,” he said.
Maresca’s first major assignment as the Chelsea boss will be a Premier League match against Manchester City, scheduled to be played at Stamford Bridge on August 18.
