Ingredients:

1. Jackfruit pieces – 10

2. Half a cup of jaggery

3. Grated coconut (Quarter Cup)

4. 2 cardamoms

5. Half a cup of tamarind (Imli)

6. A little salt

7. Banana leaf

Recipe:

1. Cut the jackfruit into small pieces.

2. Soak half a cup of tamarind for 1 hour.

3. Now grind the jackfruit pieces, jaggery, grated coconut, cardamom and tamarind in a mixer.

4. Now cut a banana leaf into squares and spread the ground ingredients in the square leaves.

5. Now fold the leaves and put them in the idli steamer. After some time, turn off the steamer and serve to everyone with the leaves.

Besides this sweet dish, another delicacy that can be made with the help of jackfruit is Halasina Sukeli. A resident from the Kannalli village in Sirsi town of Uttara Kannada named Venkataramana Hegade has been preparing this sweet dish for 4 years. Consumers are always eager to buy and taste the delicious recipe from jackfruit which is also considered as an alternative to chocolates. The demand for this sweet dish increases during the rainy season.

Before the production of Halasina Sukeli, the Uttara Kannada stores Jackfruit in a closed space for four days. The next day this fruit is turned over and kept to dry again. During this time the heat should not surpass 60 degrees. Besides this, Venkataramana Hegade also ensures that the Jackfruit does not turn black during the process. After four days, the Jackfruit turns from yellow to light brown, ready to be savoured by the children. It gives a chocolate-like taste to the food lovers.

According to Venkataramana, there is no need to add any kind of special ingredient to it. He added that no special care is needed for making this delicacy.
