Nishant Totla grew up in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, as the only son of a doctor couple.

Most people pursuing engineering aspire to study from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). To be able to take admission there, one has to pass the JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. JEE is an entry gate for those who want to study from IIT. It is also one of the toughest examinations in the world. There are many people who have not only succeeded in passing the JEE exam, but have also achieved top ranks in it. One such person who has secured rank 2 in the JEE exam is Nishant Totla. He secured second rank in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) in the year 2008. Nishant Totla got this rank from among more than 3,75,000 students in IIT Joint Entrance Examination. Apart from this, he secured All India Rank 43 from among more than 8,00,000 students in AIEEE 2008. Nishant Totla has also been awarded the Academy Excellence for the year 2008-09 by IIT Bombay. He is also a National Gold Medallist in the Chemistry Olympiad.

Nishant Totla joined IIT Bombay where he earned a BTech degree in Computer Science. He has also obtained a minor degree in Maths. After this, he also worked with the Growth Tactics Engineering Team (Software Engineering Intern) at X (Twitter). He has contributed to the internal Scala framework for batch job processing along with dashboard and back-end design for advertising metrics. Reportedly, he has also worked as a software engineer in Google’s North America office, with a pay package of around Rs 52 lakh per annum.

Nishant Totla grew up in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, as the only son of a doctor couple. His parents encouraged him to pursue his interests, particularly in mathematics, which led to his academic success. Totla’s love for maths propelled him to excel in his studies, ultimately earning him a gold medal in the International Physics Olympiad and the second rank in the prestigious IIT-JEE exam in 2008. Totla in an interview said, “My parents always encouraged me to do whatever I wanted. My love for mathematics brought me here today.”

Nishant is currently pursuing PhD from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley. He is in the third year of his PhD program.
