Inder Singh Randhawa, known professionally as ISR, is a very respected and powerful name in the entertainment world. From giving music to Rajkummar Rao’s film, working with various major labels in India to his recent release Reel Beautifulthrough a major label in the USA—the only Hindi song to land on the USA iTunes Pop chart among names like Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter, Harry Styles—ISR has cemented his name in the music industry. His work to bridge cultures has been appreciated by the city of Houston (which resulted in two days being named after him), state of Texas and by Presidents Obama and Biden. With his advocacy work, he helped get a law signed to bring cultures together through music.
His wife Chandani stood beside him throughout his journey. Together, they started Reel Beautiful, an LLC, trademark and website that has brought together their work under one umbrella. The name came after Chandani herself played the lead role in ISR’s Tere Deewane, and in the official remix of O Maahi from Shah Rukh Khan’s movie Dunki. Not only did ISR write Tere Deewane for Chandani, but he was also credited as a producer and director for O Maahi official remix. Thus, came the idea to combine both the Reel and Beauty worlds—and Reel Beautiful was born. This power couple is a staple at the Grammys, and are VIPs at historic events like Howdy Modi!.
When asked what their favourite project was, they both answered Tere Deewane. Chandani said, “The song was written for me, I played the lead role, our good friend Jyotica Tangri sang it along with my favorite singer Javed Ali. The song became even more special as our daughter is credited as a vocalist and featured in the video”. Talking about what made the vision come together for him, ISR said, “I came up with the idea of putting her heartbeat in the song before she was born using the ultrasound from one of our doctor’s visits. Hours before the delivery, I decided I wanted her vocals in it too and ended up writing extra lines to justify the random cry in the song. So, Jannat’s cry was recorded before she was even handed to her parents.”
“Imagine at birth getting to work with and being credited next to the very talented Jyotica, legendary Javed Ali, her mother, her father and amazing Manpreet Toor—who played her mother in the video—and being released on MTV, all before the age of one. To top it off, the song was declared #1 on MTV’s most romantic songs,” he added.
