Report: Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Future Uncertain With Liverpool With Real Madrid, PSG On High Alert
Last Updated:
It is reported that Liverpool does not want to give Trent Alexander-Arnold a deal making him the highest-paid player at the club.
Liverpool could find themselves in a precarious position as talks with their star full-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold reportedly stalling with his contract set to expire at the end of the ongoing season.
According to a report by The Sun, the club is negotiating to extend the contracts of three key players; Alexander-Arnold, Mohammed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
The report claims that the club does not want to give the right-back a deal to make him the highest-earning player at the club, above the likes of Salah and van Djik, despite being in the prime years of his footballing career.
It would make sense to keep Alexander-Arnold considering that Salah (32) and van Dijk (33) are no longer in their athletic prime. It is suggested that offering the right-back the biggest deal could ruffle feathers from within, considering that they are halfway through the season.
The Merseyside club made multiple offers, an improvement to his current £180,000-a-week deal, but an agreement is yet to be made as both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the services of the star England right-back. The report suggests that Alexander-Arnold has not asked to match his wages to both van Djik and Salah, however, he could find himself earning a lot more at either PSG or Real Madrid.
The La Liga giants have been known to take advantage of star players’ contracts coming to an end by offering big wages and signing fees, which could be a better financial opportunity for a player. The 26-year-old has been a big target for the defending Champions League winners and is tipped to be the one least likely to renew with his current club.
In van Dijk’s case, he would like to continue playing for Liverpool but the length of his new contract is yet to be agreed upon.
Liverpool will certainly be affected should either of the three major stars leave the club as they have been synonymous with the club’s rise to the top echelon in the English top-flight. With Jurgen Klopp’s departure and Arne Slot’s arrival as the new manager, the club finds themselves at the top of the table with 25 points with 10 games played. They also lead in the Champions League, having won all four games.
