The 29-year-old French full-back joined the club in 2019 from Ligue 1 club Lyon and has played in 169 matches for Real Madrid since then.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are currently looking to sign a contract extension with French defender Ferland Mendy ahead of the start of next season. The 29-year-old full-back has been a crucial figure in Carlos Ancelotti’s team since his arrival in Spain from Lyon in 2019.

As per a report in ManagingMadrid, MARCA Los Blancos are looking to secure Mendy’s future at the club. The Frenchman’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025. The same report suggests that Real Madrid will likely keep both Mendy and Fran Garcia for the upcoming season since Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies’ arrival at the club has become increasingly unlikely.

Reports of a contract extension surrounding Mendy originated in May earlier this year. Bernabeu Digital claimed that Real Madrid were unwilling to part ways with the defender while looking to offer him a two-year extension that would keep him at the club until 2027. While a deal still has not been confirmed by both parties, the Los Blancos are confident of offering the Frenchman a new contract. Given that the left-back is settled at Santiago Bernabeu, the contract extension discussions are likely to progress smoothly. Securing Mendy could mean that Real Madrid are likely to postpone their pursuit of Alphonso Davies for another year.

In the last five years, Ferland Mendy has established himself as a crucial part of Real Madrid’s defence. The Frenchman arrived in the Spanish capital from Lyon on a six-year deal worth £47 million. His arrival changed the situation a lot at the club, as the defender has made 170 appearances for Real Madrid since that season.

In those appearances, Mendy has notched six goals and provided 10 assists. He won the La Liga title in his first full season before winning it once again in 2022. This year alone, Mendy has won the Spanish League, the Supercopa de Espana, and the Champions League.
