As ‘Stree 2′ continues to shatter box office records and captivate audiences worldwide, Rajkummar Rao took a trip down to the memory lane and shared insights into his creative process while filming the iconic climax scene of the 2018 film ‘Stree’.
In a conversation with Raj Shamani on YouTube, he revealed that he drew inspiration from Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan to craft a memorable moment that resonated with audiences. The scene, where Rao’s character, Vicky, confronts a witch, is notable for its humor and emotional depth, showcasing the actor’s improvisational skills.
The ‘Srikanth’ actor explained that he often collaborates closely with writers to create what he refers to as a “playground” for his performances. This approach allows him to explore and experiment with his character in a way that feels authentic. In the case of ‘Stree’, the climax scene became a platform for him to channel his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan, a figure synonymous with romance in Indian cinema.
The ‘Mr. and Mrs. Mahi’ actor recounted the moment when he was instructed to look into the witch’s eyes with love, despite the fear his character felt. This proximity created a humorous tension, which he capitalised on by incorporating SRK’s signature expressions. “Uski aankho mein dekho… ankho mein…Pyar ke bhooki hai wo pyaar se dekho,” he recalled, mimicking the emotional intensity that Khan often brings to his roles.
The improvisation was a hit, with Rao noting that audiences reacted enthusiastically in theaters. “Toh wahan pe maine improvise kiya (I improvised it there) which people cracked up laughing. In theaters, people were going nuts over that scene. It’s an improvised scene,” he shared. This moment not only highlights Rao’s talent but also underscores the cultural impact of Shah Rukh Khan’s legacy in shaping the way love is portrayed in Indian films.
Meanwhile, ‘Stree 2’ starring Shraddha Kapoor opposite Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee, has already grossed an impressive Rs 290.85 crore in India after just 8 days of its release on August 15.
