PM’s speech on UCC a call to divide nation on religion: UDF convener M M Hassan | Thiruvananthapuram News

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: UDF convener M M Hassan alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s speech on uniform civil code (UCC) during his Independence Day speech was a call to divide the nation on religious grounds.
Hassan criticized the Prime Minister “for attempting to create an atmosphere of hatred and animosity among the people, when he should be calling for the protection of freedom and strengthening of unity”.
The PM referred to the existing UCC in the country as a communal personal law and claimed that the civil code is discriminatory and communal. “Modi’s speech is an insult and disrespect to constitutional architects like B R Ambedkar and the freedom fighters in the constituent assembly who shaped the common civil code that has been in place for the past 75 years,” said Hassan.tnn
