Paris Paralympics 2024 Day 8 Wrap: India Hit 25-medal Mark With Judoka Kapil Parmar’s Bronze

The Indian Paralympic unit picked up their record 25th medal of the quadrennial games in Paris on Thursday as Judoka Kapil Parmar finished on the podium in his 60 Kg J1 event.

Sprinter Simran made it to the final of the women’s 100m event but missed out on a medal as she finished fourth in the final.

The mixed recurve archery team of Pooja and Harvinder Singh looked on course to add to the medal tally, before stumbling in the semifinal and the eventual bronze medal ties as the Indian duo’s challenge fizzled out.

Para Judo: Men -60kg J1- Kapil Parmar added to the national medal tally as he picked up a bronze in his event on Thursday. He started his day with a 10-0 win over Venezuela’s Dennis Marcos Blanco via Ippon, before going down to  Seyed Meysam 0-10. The Indian, however, bounced back with a 10-0 win over Brazilian Elielton de Oliveira via an Ippon to clinch India’s 25th medal of the Paralympic campaign in Paris.

Para Judo: Women -48kg J1- Kokila suffered a defeat to Uzbekistan’s Nauatbek Akmaral in the qualification round by a scoreline of 0-10. The Indian had a chance to bag a medal as she went into repechage, but ultimately ended up losing 0-10 to Ukraine’s Ivanytska Yulia.

Para Athletics: Women’s 100m T12 semi-finals – Simran came in second in the semifinal with a time of 12.33 seconds to move into the final, but missed out on a medal ultimately as she finished fourth in the medal round clocking 12.31 seconds.

Para Archery: Mixed Team Recurve- Pooja and Harvinder Singh missed out on a medal by a whisker as they went to the Slovenian pair of Ziva Lavrinc and Dejan Fabcic in the bronze medal fixture after making their way to the semis in fine fashion. The Indian archers started the day with a 5-4 win over Amanda Jennings and Taymon Kenton-Smith of Australia in the 1/8 elimination round, before routing Poland’s Lukasz Ciszek and Milena Olszewska 6-0 in the quarters. However, they succumbed to Italians Elisabetta Mijno and Stefano Travisani 2-6 in the semis.

Para Shooting: R6 Mixed 50m Prone SH1- Sidhartha Babu finished 22nd with 615.8, while Mona Agarwal came in 30th with a score of 610.5 as both shooters failed to make it to the final of the event.

Para Powerlifting: Ashok finished the final of the Men’s up to 65 kg event in sixth place with a best lift of 199 Kg on the day.

Para Athletics: Arvind finished sixth in the final of the men’s shot put f35 event with a best throw of 13.01.
