The local media citing the eyewitnesses claimed that a man attacked people with two sharp knives while shouting Allahu Akbar, the Arabic phrase meaning ‘God is great.’
A man armed with ‘two knives’ stabbed one person to death and seriously injured another person in a horror attack on Thursday, September 19, in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam, Netherlands, the police said. The suspect, who was also injured, has been taken to police custody.
Police spokesman Wessel Stolle said that an investigation into the stabbing incident near the landmark Erasmus Bridge is underway. He added that there was no clear image of the motive, but ‘all possible scenarios’ will be probed.

Heroic Bystander Comes To Rescue
A sports instructor who was giving a class near the Erasmus Bridge where the stabbing incident occurred claimed that he managed to overpower the attacker.
“I saw a man with two long knives stabbing a young guy,” he said. “It was a man with two long knives who was stabbing another young guy and when I started shouting he turned around and started approaching everyone who was around him. I eventually managed to get them away.”
The police and emergency service rushed to the landmark bridge location after hearing about the attack. Police spokesperson Kristel Arntz said that it was too early in the probe to establish the attacker’s motive.
“We have arrested a suspect, we are going to question him. We will look at all the witness statements and then we will look at what the possible motive was,” she said. The identity of the victims and the suspect was not clear.
