One person is dead and six injured after gunfire erupted at Maplewood Park in Rochester. The chaotic scene left many fleeing, and no arrests have been made yet

One person is dead and six others are injured following a mass shooting at Maplewood Park in Rochester, New York, on Sunday evening. The shooting occurred around 6:20 pm (local time), during a large gathering in the park.

The deceased victim was in their 20s, while another person is in life-threatening condition, the New York Post reported, citing Rochester police. The remaining five victims suffered minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Witnesses reported a heavy barrage of gunfire that sent the crowd fleeing in panic. A video shared on social media captured the chaotic scene as shots rang out.

Police have not yet released details about the victims or the number of suspects involved in the shooting.

“At this point, we don’t know how many people were shooting,” said Rochester Police Captain Greg Bello. The department is currently interviewing witnesses to gather more information.

So far, no arrests have been made, and authorities are asking anyone with information or video footage of the incident to contact 911. The investigation is ongoing.
