NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while campaigning for his sister Priyanka Gandhi in Wayanad on the last day of the bypoll campaign, said that his view of politics changed after he began using the word “love”. Sporting a white “I love Wayanad” T-shirt, Rahul credited the constituency with reminding him to incorporate “love” more often in politics.
Drawing on experiences from nationwide Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Congress MP said the purpose of his foot march was ‘political’, but by the end of the day, he had understood the meaning of ‘love’ in politics.

“I realized while I was on the plane today that for many years I did not use the word ‘love’ in politics. After I came to Wayanad suddenly I started using the word ‘love’ in politics. I realised that it was because the people of Wayanad gave me so much love and affection that my entire politics changed,” he added.
The Congress leader also said that the people at Wayanad taught him the importance of ‘love’ and that’s why he is wearing a shirt with the quote ‘I Love Wayanad’.
“The only weapon to counter hatred and anger is love and affection,” he added.
The Congress leader expressed how visiting Wayanad always lifts his spirits, saying, “Whenever I come here, I naturally feel happy. Even if I’m feeling a bit irritated, coming to Wayanad makes me feel better.” .
Referring to Priyanka, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha added, “Priyanka Gandhi is the MP candidate here. She’s also my younger sister, so I have the right to share any complaints about her with the people of Wayanad.”
Rahul Gandhi then encouraged his sister to make Wayanad Kerala’s top tourist destination, noting that such a move would boost the local economy and showcase the area’s beauty to the world.
Earlier, a roadshow was held in Sultan Bathery, Wayanad, featuring Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is standing in the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election. Rahul Gandhi joined the event to show his support.
A Congress stronghold, Wayanad will see a by-election on November 13, with Priyanka Gandhi representing Congress, Navya Haridas for the BJP, and Sathyan Mokeri for the Left alliance.
The by poll was annouced after Rahul Gandhi vacated the seat, opting to keep Rae Bareli following his victory in both constituencies during the general elections earlier this year.
