Syria Crisis: India reacted to the turmoil in Syria where President Bashar Al-Assad was ousted by rebel forces on Sunday.
As the situation in Syria remains evolving after former President Bashar Al-Assad’s fall, India on Monday stressed on the need for “all parties” to work towards the preservation of unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the war-torn country.
Issuing a statement a day after Assad’s regime fell, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India bats for a peaceful and “inclusive Syrian-led political process” that takes into account the aspirations of all sections of the society.
“We are monitoring the situation in Syria in the light of ongoing developments. We underline the need for all parties to work towards preserving the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria. We advocate a peaceful and inclusive Syrian-led political process respecting the interests and aspirations of all sections of Syrian society,” he said.
“Our Embassy in Damascus is in contact with the Indian community, for their safety and security,” the MEA added.
