Mike Tyson’s candid admission on his payout for the Jake Paul fight | Boxing News
Mike Tyson, a former undisputed heavyweight world champion, has stated that money isn’t a driving force behind his upcoming fight against Jake Paul.
Tyson and Paul are set to face off on November 15th at the AT&T Stadium in Texas, potentially in front of a massive crowd of 80,000 spectators.
The highly anticipated match was initially scheduled for July but was postponed due to Tyson experiencing a health setback.
Despite concerns surrounding his health, Tyson has affirmed his readiness to step back into the ring.
Tyson’s last professional fight was in 2005, ending in a loss to Kevin McBride.
His most recent victory dates back to 2003, a first-round knockout against Clifford Etienne.
However, Tyson did participate in an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, which concluded in a draw after eight rounds.
Jake Paul, known as ‘The Problem Child,’ has made a significant impact in the boxing world since turning professional in 2020.
His professional record stands at 10 wins and 1 loss, with his only defeat coming against Tommy Fury in the previous year.
Paul’s most recent fight was a knockout victory against former UFC fighter Mike Perry in July.
Tyson insists that his return to boxing is not motivated by financial gain.
Tyson’s current income primarily comes from his cannabis ventures, and he emphasizes his desire to embrace risk by taking on this fight against Paul.
“I could be waiting on a check every day from cannabis.”
“That’s bulls— for me. I’m a man; I want to go out there and I want to expose myself to risk. Sometimes I want to see who I really am. I want to see what I’m really made out of. I want to perform in front of the world. To me, that’s all I ever knew how to do since I was 14. This fight is not going to change my life financially enough. This is just what I want to do.”
Tyson has recently acknowledged that he is not in peak physical condition.
“It’s hard to walk right now. But two months from now I’m going to be perfect. The fight is won in the gym. Listen, I’ll do anything that will help me. I’m going to enjoy my time here tonight with all my childhood friends, and the hell with Jake Paul.” as per The Mirror.
Paul has faced criticism since the fight’s announcement.
The 27-year-old refutes the notion that financial gain is the main motivation behind the bout.
“Making history. This is what it’s all about for me, man. I’m a kid from Ohio. […] They’ll never give me credit. That’s the way it is. If I was walking on water, they would say it’s because I couldn’t swim. And this is to make history. The people think I’m going to get knocked out by this strong, powerful guy.”
