Mahesh Bhatt says he owes his career to Vinod Khanna, hails Rajesh Khanna’s stardom as never-before-seen: ‘Today’s stars have digital support’ | Hindi Movie News
Mahesh Bhatt, who began his career as a director by assisting filmmaker Raj Khosla, recently reminisced about his interactions with the director and the projects he helped him with. Bhatt also talked about Vinod Khanna‘s significance in his life and Rajesh Khanna‘s fame.
During a conversation with Radio Nasha, the filmmaker revealed he has never seen stardom like Rajesh Khanna’s.He recalled, “I met Raj Khosla when he was shooting the last schedule of the film Do Raaste, starring Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz. They were shooting for the song Tune Kajal Lagaya Din Mein Raat Hogayi. I had not seen a stardom like Rajesh Khanna ever.”
He further stated that the stars of this generation are reaping significant benefits from digital support. He said, ”Nowadays, all stars are benefitting quite a lot by the digital support. Back then, there were just a couple of film magazines, even prints were a few, yet Rajesh Khanna managed to have a never-before-seen stardom,” he added.
Mahesh Bhatt further added that he collaborated once again with Raj Khosla for the film ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’, which starred Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna. He fondly remembered Vinod and recalled his contribution in his life. He said, “Vinod Khanna was a great friend. He has played a very important role in my life. He has contributed a lot. I don’t think without him, I would have become the person who I am today.”
Bhatt further talked about his film ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’, which he shot in Udaipur. He praised the songs in the film and said that they were exceptionally well-crafted by Anand Bakshi and Lakshmikanth Pyarelal. He shared that the collaboration with Raj Khosla began with this project, leading to the creation of a film titled ‘Do Chor’, starring Dharmendra. Directed by Raj Khosla’s assistant Padmanabh, with Raj Khosla serving as the producer, the film was shot in Goa. Despite a rocky start with four unsuccessful films, he shot to fame eventually after the release of ‘Arth’.
Mahesh Bhatt’s sixth film was ‘Arth’. Bhatt wrote the semi-autobiographical movie, which was well-received by critics and was about his alleged extramarital affair with Parveen Babi. The film bagged two National Film Awards.
