Bengaluru: Scaling up its renewable energy generation capacity, Karnataka has set a target of adding 19.2 GW of renewable energy by 2030. Showcasing its achievements in the renewable energy sector at the fourth edition of RE-Invest 2024 at Gandhinagar in Gujarat, the energy department’s additional chief secretary Gaurav Gupta said several initiatives of the state govt will help achieve this target.
Currently, the state has a capacity of 18 GW of renewable energy capacity.
Participating as one of the state partners in the three-day global conclave RE-Invest, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, Gupta said: “Karnataka has been at the forefront of renewable energy adoption under the guidance of energy minister KJ George. The RE-Invest has provided us with an opportunity to showcase our state’s initiatives and investments in clean energy. We are committed to innovation and sustainability in the RE sector. The state has already implemented several initiatives to boost RE energy in the state. Our policies are designed to attract investments, streamline processes, and ensure the timely execution of projects.”
The simplified land acquisition process, expedited clearances, and multiple incentives for RE energy projects in Karnataka were highlighted during the global event.
KP Rudrappaiah, managing director of Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), said: “During the financial year 2023-24 alone, we have commissioned 1,027 MW of new wind projects, and the state is at the forefront of India’s energy transition journey. Karnataka is leveraging hybrid energy solutions, combining solar and wind power to ensure a stable and reliable energy supply. Our state is committed to furthering this growth by providing a conducive environment for businesses and investors.”
Karnataka also bagged four awards during the global conclave for being the second highest achiever state in overall hydro capacity, the second largest RE park at Pavagada, third highest achiever state in overall solar power capacity, and third highest achiever state in overall wind power capacity.
