Ahead of the release of her upcoming film Emergency, Kangana Ranaut has approached the police after receiving death threats on social media. In the movie, set to hit theaters on September 6, she plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
A disturbing video recently appeared online, where a man is heard threatening Kangana, saying, “If you release this movie, Sardars will beat you with slippers.You’ve already been slapped. I’m a proud Indian, and if I see you anywhere in my country, especially in Maharashtra, we, along with our Hindu, Christian, and Muslim brothers, will welcome you with slippers.”
Another individual in the video warns, “History cannot be altered. If Sikhs are depicted as terrorists in the film, remember what happened to the one you’re portraying. Don’t forget who Satwant Singh and Beant Singh were. We know how to break the finger that points at us… If we can sacrifice our heads, we can also take one.”

The video sparked concern among social media users for Kangana’s safety. One person wrote, “What’s happening in our country? Kangana Ranaut, a BJP MP and Bollywood actress, is being threatened for simply portraying India’s history. Is it wrong to tell the story of Indira Gandhi, one of our nation’s strongest leaders? Please increase your security; we’re genuinely worried about you.”
Kangana shared the video on Twitter, tagging the police departments of Himachal, Maharashtra, and Punjab, with the message, “Please look into this.”

Emergency is a film directed entirely by Kangana Ranaut and features a star-studded cast, including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik in key roles. The movie delves into the turbulent period of the Emergency in 1975, showcasing Kangana as Indira Gandhi.

The trailer highlights Indira’s close relationship with her father, former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, her entry into politics, and her handling of various challenges throughout her career. The film also touches on significant historical events, including the Emergency, the Shimla Agreement, the rise of the Khalistan movement, and the JP Andolan, among others.
