John Abraham, who is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated film ‘Vedaa’, opened up on various aspects of his life and career.
During his conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia, John Abraham shared that after completing his MBA, his initial salary was Rs 6,500 as a media planner. The actor recalled being offered a chance to participate in the Gladrags competition, where Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Karan Johar, and Karan Kapoor were the judges.Winning the competition earned him Rs 40,000, which was a significant amount for him at the time, especially since his take-home salary was Rs 11,500.
When asked about how he spent his salary, John revealed that his expenses were minimal. In 1999, his lunch cost just Rs 6, consisting of two chapatis and a dal fry. He often skipped dinner due to working late at the office. His expenses mainly included petrol for his bike, as he didn’t own a mobile phone and relied on a train pass for transportation. John saved his money and invested in equity-based mutual funds, which marked the beginning of his career.
John Abraham emphasized the importance of not just earning money but using it responsibly. He noted that in a capitalist society, it’s good to have the drive to make and earn money. However, he stressed that the key issue is what one does with that money. He pointed out that this is why Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) was established: to encourage people to allocate some of their earnings to charity.
Meanwhile, on the work front, John will be next seen in ‘Vedaa’ with Sharvari Wagh. The film will hit screens on August 15 this year.
