Jim Carrey open to ‘The Mask’ sequel and revisiting The Grinch, but only for the right reasons | English Movie News
Jim Carrey recently shared his thoughts on revisiting some of his most beloved roles, including his iconic characters in The Mask and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Speaking to ComicBook.com, the actor explained that he would only consider a sequel to The Mask if the concept felt meaningful and fresh. He clarified that his decision wouldn’t be about money, adding, “If someone came up with the right idea, I’d think about it. It’s not about the paycheck—it’s more about the creativity behind it.”
Carrey’s 1994 film The Mask became a massive success, earning $351 million worldwide and introducing Cameron Diaz to audiences. The actor hinted that while he’s open to revisiting the green-faced trickster, it would depend entirely on the quality of the story.
When asked about his earlier comments on retiring, Carrey shared a change in perspective. In April 2022, he had mentioned he was “fairly serious” about stepping away from acting, but now, he sees things differently. Carrey clarified that he wasn’t talking about retirement but rather about taking a break, which he jokingly referred to as “power-resting.” He explained that exciting new ideas and opportunities often pull him back to work, making it hard to stay away.
Carrey also expressed interest in reprising his role as the Grinch, provided the process becomes less physically demanding. He recalled how challenging it was to endure long hours in the makeup chair during the original film. “It was an excruciating process,” he admitted. However, with advancements in motion-capture technology, Carrey believes it could now be possible to bring the Grinch back to life in a less grueling way. He emphasized that the role always felt rewarding because it brought joy to children.
For now, fans can look forward to seeing Carrey in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, set to release on December 20, 2024. While he remains open to revisiting his past roles, Carrey insists it’s all about finding the right team and creative vision to make it worthwhile.
