The death toll in Rajasthan’s gas tanker crash rose to 14 on Saturday. The number of deaths is likely to rise as twenty-eight people are in hospital, with many of them in critical condition.
A local report stated that the impact of the accident was such that many people received burn injuries up to 75 per cent, while the fire lasted for nearly eight hours.
The horrific accident took place on Friday when an LPG tanker collided with a truck, sparking a massive fire that turned a stretch of the Jaipur-Ajmer highway into an inferno. Besides burning people to death on the spot, the crash sent 37 vehicles up in flames.
The gas leak spread the fire in a flash, leaving no scope for those in nearby vehicles to come out. People were seen rushing and taking off clothes engulfed in flames.
A report in ABP News stated the blast was so strong that people heard its sound up to 10 kilometers.
