Liverpool under the new manager, Arne Slot has given Diogo Jota a new role and the Portuguese forward believes that it brings out his best qualities for the side.

Ever since making his move to Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, the Portuguese forward, Diogo Jota has been finding himself in various positions on the front lines.

However, in the new managerial era, under Arne Slot, Jota seems to have found his position within the Merseyside attack, coming in as the #9 for the team in their recent 2-0 win over Ipswich Town for their opening fixture in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old scored the opening goal for Liverpool in the 60th minute to get Liverpool’s campaign up and running as the side went on to grab the three points at the Portman Road Stadium.

Jota reflected on his time under the former manager Jurgen Klopp and suggested that his new role might bring out his best qualities; to finish the chances created by the rest of the team. Under the German manager, Jota was primarily used out wide, but he has shown capabilities of being amongst the better finishers which has resulted in him taking the striker role, benching the likes of Darwin Nunez who was bought into the club for a massive fee of £85 million.

“It’s a bit different from [Jurgen] Klopp where I maybe was useful out wide. I think here he [Slot] wants our wingers a lot more in one-v-ones and I think we have better options than myself. If I stay in the middle and wait for those chances to come in and score them, I think that is what I do the best so you can take that into the season,” said Jota to LFC’s media team.

After getting their first win on the board, Liverpool will gear up for their first home game of the season as they take on Thomas Frank’s Brentford at the iconic Anfield. Slot will be looking to make a strong impression in front of the home crowd despite the side not being supported with a single signing in the summer transfer window so far.

Liverpool’s efforts of signing the Spanish holding midfielder, Martin Zubimendi came to an abrupt end as the player reportedly rejected the club’s offer and opted to stay with Real Sociedad for the upcoming season.

Despite the lack of signings, the 19-time champions still have a decent squad with enough quality players across the board and Slot will be tasked to help bring the club back in contention for the biggest titles in club football.
