‘I said it… ‘: Brij Bhushan repeats conspiracy charge against wrestlers, Congress | India News
NEW DELHI: Ex-WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Thursday repeated his charge against Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda and his son Deepender Hooda for “hatching conspiracy” against him through last year’s wrestler protest.
Addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda, the BJP leader said the allegations against him was part of the Congress’s conspiracy.
“When allegations were put against me, I said that it’s a conspiracy by Congress, Deepender Hooda and Bhupinder Hooda.I have said it earlier, the country is saying it today. Now, I needn’t say anything about it,” the ex-Kaiserganj MP claimed.
Brij Bhushan, who is facing sexual harassment charges, had alleged that Deepender Hooda hatched the conspiracy against him.
Singh had also alleged that grappler Bajrang Punia, one of the prominent faces of the protest, was also involved in the conspiracy against him.
Brij Bhushan’s comments came day after Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat met Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi at his residence in New Delhi.
The meeting fueled speculation that the two could contest the October 5 Haryana assembly election as Congress candidates.
After spending an hour-and-a-half with Rahul, the duo met AICC general secretary K C Venugopal. Both the athletes are already in touch with former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his Rohtak MP son Deepender Singh Hooda.
Sources indicated that Vinesh could be fielded from Badhra assembly constituency and Punia from either Jhajjar or Sonipat assembly constituency.
Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar also made a big claim after against the wrestler duo met Rahul Gandhi.
The former Haryana CM said last year’s protest is finally “reaching its climax” as the wrestlers ask Congress for tickets to contest Haryana Assembly elections.
Khattar also claimed the protest has always been politically motivated.
Khattar, who is also Haryana’s ex-CM, said on Wednesday athletes “got trapped in a political maze”.
“I think our athletes got trapped in a political maze at that time (wrestlers’ protest). It is reaching its climax today, the same people are urging Congress for a ticket. It means that the entire matter was political,” Khattar told news agency ANI on reports that Congress may give tickets to protesting wrestlers.
