Rapper and Singer Yo Yo Honey Singh, who is one of the most loved Indian rappers of all time, has opened up about his much-discussed divorce from Shalini Talwar. After reaching a mutual settlement, a Delhi court granted the rapper and his wife a divorce in November 2023. The singer replied that there was no use in continuing to live together when the judge asked Singh if he wanted to reevaluate the marriage before approving the separation.
During a conversation with Mashable India, Honey Singh talked candidly about the difficult moments in his personal life. He recounted an emotional discussion he had ten years prior about marriage with Sonakshi Sinha while they were making the music video for ‘Desi Kalakar’.
The singer shared, “While shooting in Los Angeles, Sonakshi and I had a long discussion about marriage. I was going through a rough patch in my own marriage, and I confided in her about it. She shared her views on what marriage really means, even though she wasn’t married herself back then.”
He was all praises for Sonakshi, who according to him at a young age had a mature understanding of relationships. “I could see in her eyes that she deeply understood the importance of a marital relationship, even though she herself hadn’t been married yet. So, when her wedding day finally came, I remembered our conversation and was genuinely happy for her,” he stated.
While speaking about his own divorce, Honey Singh disclosed that he wasn’t emotionally affected by the separation. “Mere ko nahi affect kiya kuch bhi,” he said. The rapper said that everything happened “suddenly” and disclosed that after their split, his health started to get better.
He revealed that he started feeling better after the divorce. “Jab mera separation hua, uske baad main theek hona shuru hua hu, uske baad meri dawaai kum hui hai (I was sick for a long time, and after the separation, I started feeling better. My medication reduced, and I stopped experiencing symptoms.) It was like I was seeing the world for the first time in seven years,” he shared.
Honey Singh withheld additional information on their breakup because he and his ex-wife have an agreement that forbids them from talking about one another in public.
