Yo Yo Honey Singh has recently shared how his rise to fame and battle with addiction led him to distance himself from his family. Although he has agreed not to publicly discuss his divorce from ex-wife Shalini Talwar, the rapper has briefly acknowledged how he neglected her due to various influences.
In an interview with The Lallantop, Singh admitted, “Our relationship wasn’t very good at that time. There was a distance between us because I was traveling a lot… I neglected my family and completely lost myself in daulat, shohrat, nashe aur aurat (money, fame, addiction, and women).” He confessed to having done ‘terrible things’ during that period, nearly forgetting Shalini.
Honey Singh and Shalini were married on January 23, 2011. He revealed that their first 9-10 months were happy, but as his career soared, he fell into drug and alcohol abuse, which caused their relationship to deteriorate. The couple finalized their divorce between 2022 and 2023.

The rapper also disclosed that he was introduced to drugs by influential figures and became so addicted that he was high almost all the time. “Most of the time, I was unaware of myself and my surroundings… I emphasized that I never required rehabilitation to overcome my addictions,” Singh said, adding that he never sought rehabilitation for his addiction.
Eventually, Honey decided to quit substances and informed his family about his severe mental health issues. Despite needing immediate medical help, his family was concerned about potential legal issues due to his busy schedule.

Fortunately, Honey Singh chose to focus on his health, taking a seven-year break from the public eye to recover fully. Now, as he promotes his latest album Glory, a documentary about his life and struggles will soon be available on OTT platform.
