Hathras tragedy: 7 killed, 13 injured in devastating road collision; CM UP Yogi announces aid

AGRA: A tragic road accident occurred in Hathras district on the Mathura-Kasganj highway. A head-on collision between a Magic passenger vehicle and a container resulted in the death of seven passengers: three men, three women, and a toddler, while others sustained critical injuries.
The Magic was carrying approximately 20 passengers during the incident. The accident occurred near Jaitpur village under the Hathras jurisdiction police station, Kotwali Hathras Junction, on Tuesday afternoon. The seven deceased were later identified as Pushpa Devi, 65, Prema Devi, 45, Ishu, two and a half months, Neelam Devi, 36, Kishan Singh (driver of the Magic), 38, Manveer, 37, and Ram Niwas, 58, all residents of Hathras and Etah.
The local police were informed and promptly arrived at the spot. They rushed the injured to the district hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination. Doctors at the district hospital referred several critically injured individuals to Aligarh Medical College for advanced treatment. The incident caused deep sorrow in the area, with grieving families and a shocked community mourning the loss. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident, said an official.
According to the district magistrate of Hathras, Rahul Pandey, “As many as seven people are dead, and six critically injured passengers have been shifted to Aligarh’s Medical College. As the chief minister ordered, compensation of Rs 2 lakh for death and Rs 50,000 for the injured will be provided to the victims’ families. Police are investigating the matter, and further action will be taken accordingly.”
According to the police, 20 people from village Kumhrai under the Kotwali Chandpa and some relatives were going to Etah. When they arrived near the village of Jaitpur, a container hit the Magic van from the front. The collision was so severe that the Magic overturned several times and fell into a ditch.
After hearing screams, the nearby villagers rushed to the spot, pulled out the injured from the vehicle, and informed the police.
The station house officer of the Hathras Junction police station, Yogesh Kumar, said, “After the incident, the driver of the container fled the spot. A case will be registered in the matter after receiving a police complaint. The bodies have been sent to the post-mortem house, and further investigation is on.”
