Manorama Khedkar, the mother of constroversial IAS officer Puja Khedkar, was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Pune court.

NEW DELHI: Manorama Khedkar, the mother of constroversial IAS officer Puja Khedkar, was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Pune court in a case concerning alleged criminal intimidation tied to a land dispute.

Manorama was produced before the magistrate court in city by the Pune police on Monday after the court had extended her judicial custody till July 22.
Police had booked Manorama and her husband Dilip and four others after a video surfaced showing her allegedly threatening some persons with a gun over a land dispute at Dhadwali village in the district’s Mulshi tehsil in 2023.
Manorama was apprehended on July 18 from a lodge in Hirkaniwadi village near Mahad in Raigad district, where she had been hiding.
Meanwhile, a sessions court in the city granted interim protection from arrest to Puja’s father, Dilip Khedkar, until July 25.
Puja Khedkar is facing numerous allegations, including misconduct related to power and privileges, misuse of disability and Other Backward Class (non-creamy layer) quotas to secure her candidature in the civil service exam, and manipulation of her identity to exceed the permissible number of attempts.
The Centre has formed a committee to re-examine the documents she presented to secure her candidature in the civil services examination and her subsequent selection. Additionally, a criminal case has been registered against her for “misrepresenting and falsifying facts” following a “thorough investigation” by the UPSC.
