Google Maps is testing customisable navigation icons for iPhones
Google Maps may soon allow iPhone users to personalise their navigation experience with a wider selection of vehicle icons. According to a recent report, Google is testing a feature that lets users choose from various car models and even customise their colour.
Currently, Google Maps offers a limited selection of vehicle icons: a blue arrow (the default), a red car, a yellow SUV and a green pickup truck. These options were introduced in 2020 and haven’t been updated since.
According to a new report by Android Authority, Google is exploring ways to enhance personalisation within the app by allowing users to select their preferred vehicle type and colour from a batch of five car models.
This could include a hatchback, a Jeep and a sedan. Alongside these car options, Maps users would also get up to eight colour choices, including Glacier White, Night Black, Aqua Green and Poppy Red, among others. The original blue arrow and the older vehicle icons are said to remain available.
How to change vehicle icon on Google Maps app
Users can choose and change vehicle icons in the Google Maps app. Usually when users get directions, they can change the blue arrow to a car or other vehicle. They can switch back to the arrow at any time.
To choose a vehicle icon, users can:
- Open the Google Maps app.
- Start navigation by choosing a place to go to.
- Tap the blue arrow, or the vehicle if you already changed it.
- Tap the icon that you want to use.
