In an unforeseen turn of events, Serie A club Genoa roped in WWE legend Undertaker to launch their club’s first-ever black kit.
As a part of the club’s ‘The Golden Dark Side of Genoa’ campaign, aimed at celebrating the city’s diverse culture, which started last season, Genoa reeled in the infamous ‘Undertaker’ Mark Callaway as their model of choice to release the black-out kit.
The WWE Hall of Famer appeared in both a teaser video and pictures modeling the jersey in posts across their social media accounts.
In an official statement published on the club’s official website, Genoa explained how the collaboration with the Undertaker came to fruition.
“A lifetime on the ring before well-earned retirement, with a couple of electrifying comebacks,” the statement read.
“A spotlight in the Hall of Fame. Sparkling crowns of titles around his neck, even more impressive than a pride of lions.
“The aura of a hero, both for these and past generations, rests on shoulders that speak for themselves. Ladies and gentlemen, here’s The Undertaker.”
Though The Undertaker has been retired from wrestling since November of 2020, he made a sporadic appearance at WrestleMania 2023, where he attacked The Rock during the championship match between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes, contributing to the Nightmare American’s end of the longest reign in the company’s history.
This is also not the first time that the ‘Deadman’ Undertaker made headlines in the footballing world. Back in February, The Phenom made a shock appearance at the Saudi Pro League finale between Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr and Al Hilal, where he revealed the championship trophy before kickoff.
Genoa is no stranger to collaborating with popular personalites as well, as a few months back, singer and actress Rita Ora modeled for the side’s commemorative jersey, made for the 130 years of the oldest football club in Italy.
Well, Genoa fans will surely hope that their side can also rise from the grave, as they wallow at a lowly 17th place in the Serie A currently, just two points off the bottom.
