Former MP Minister Raja Pateria Acquitted After Controversial Comments on PM Modi | Bhopal News
BHOPAL: A court acquitted former minister and Senior Congress Leader Raja Pateria of charges following a controversial statement made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The MP-MLA Special District and Sessions Court in Gwalior delivered its verdict on Monday after nearly a year of hearings.
Pateria’s remarks, made before the December 2022 assembly elections, led to his arrest and a significant period of detention.Initially, Pateria’s lawyer filed a bail plea, which the court denied.
He spent approximately two and a half months in jail before securing bail from the Jabalpur High Court.
In December 2022, a video of Pateria addressing Congress workers in Pawai, Panna district, went viral.
In the video, he expressed concerns about the future of Dalits, tribals, and minorities, stating, “If you want to save the Constitution, then be ready to kill Modi.”
This sparked widespread outrage and led to an FIR against him. Following the complaint, he was arrested at his home in Hata.
After the court’s decision, Raja Pateria characterized the verdict as a “victory of truth.” The incident occurred on December 11, 2022, during a Congress meeting at the Public Works Department Rest House in Pawai, where Pateria made his inflammatory comments.
An FIR was lodged against him the following day. A week later, he was arrested at 5 am and taken to Pawai jail after being presented in court. The case continued through the MP MLA Court in Gwalior.
