Flight operations at Thiruvananthapuram Airport to remain suspended for 5 hours today | Thiruvananthapuram News
NEW DELHI: Operations at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in Kerala will be suspended on Saturday from 4pm to 9pm to accommodate the ‘Alpassi Arattu’ procession.
The traditional procession from Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple involves passing through the airport to reach Shangumugham Beach for the ceremonial holy bath of the temple idols.
In a statement on X, Thiruvananthapuram Airport explained, “The runway at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport remains closed twice a year for the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple procession to pass through.” This centuries-old tradition continues even after the airport’s establishment in 1932.
Passengers have been advised to check with their respective airlines for updated flight schedules due to the temporary disruption.
