Imtiaz Ali‘s ‘Love Aaj Kal‘ completed 15 years on July 31. The film continues to be loved for the fresh pairing of Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, its music, moments with Rishi Kapoor amidst much more. It also starred Giselli Monteiro. But did you know that initially Saif had suggested Kareena Kapoor’s name for the film. Saif was also the film’s producer and he was dating Kareena at that point.Plus, Kareena and Imtiaz had just delivered a hit like ‘Jab We Met‘. Hence, Kareena was considered to be cast in ‘Love Aaj Kal’ post ‘Jab We Met’. However, Imtiaz always wanted to make this film with Deepika.
Imtiaz had made up his mind about casting Deepika even before ‘Om Shanti Om’. Deepika had earlier said in an interview that Imtiaz infact, had also told her about ‘Rockstar’ before she made her debut. Eventually DP bagged the role in ‘Love Aaj Kal’.
Kareena had expressed her disappointment for losing out on the film at an award function. Later, Imtiaz had also reacted to what Kareena said. “The thing with flattery is that you don’t recognise it when it happens. It was not a happy feeling when Kareena publicly said what she did. I felt bad because we had cleared the issue and I didn’t realise that she still felt so bad about it.”
Many years later, Imtiaz ended up making the sequel of ‘Love Aaj Kal’ with Saif’s daughter Sara Ali Khan. She was cast opposite Kartik Aaryan in the movie. But the sequel was not as loved as the first installment.
