Veteran actor Dharmendra took to Instagram on Thursday to share an encouraging message for wrestler Vinesh Phogat, following her disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024. The 88-year-old actor referred to Vinesh as “a brave adventurous daughter of the soil,” expressing his admiration and solidarity during this challenging time.
Vinesh Phogat faced a significant setback when she was disqualified from the Olympic finals for failing to meet the weight requirement.Scheduled to compete against the USA’s Sarah Hildebrandt in the 50kg freestyle category, Vinesh was found to be 100 grams over the 50kg limit during the weigh-in on the morning of the contest. This unfortunate incident led to her disqualification and subsequent announcement of retirement from the sport.

Dharmendra commented, “Darling daughter Vinesh, we are extremely sad to hear the news. You are a brave adventurous daughter of the soil. We love you and always pray for your health and happiness. Be happy, healthy, and strong for your family and your loving people.”

Reacting to Phogat’s exit from the global event, previously actress-turned-politician Hema Malini had commented, It is very surprising, and it feels strange that she was disqualified for being 100 gm overweight. It is important to keep the weight in check. It is a lesson for all of us. I wish she would lose that 100 gm quickly but she would not get an opportunity.”
Hema Malini’s comments were met with backlash from netizens, prompting her to backtrack and offer a more supportive message. She later posted on social media, “Vinesh Phogat, the whole nation rallies behind you! You are our heroine of this Olympics. Do not lose heart – you are meant for great achievements and you have a bright future ahead of you!”
