Carles Cuadtrat won East Bengal the Super Cup earlier this year and runners-up finish at the Durand Cup last year.
Indian Super League club East Bengal FC have announced their head coach Carles Cuadrat as resigned after a poor start to the ongoing season. Bino George has been named as the interim head coach following Cuadrat’s departure.
Under Cuadrat, East Bengal ended their 12-year trophy drought by winning the Kalinga Super Cup title in January this year which remains the only title of his reign.
Besides the Super Cup triumph, he also led the team to runners-up finish in last year’s Durand Cup.
“The Emami East Bengal FC management appreciates Coach Carles for guiding the team to the Kalinga Super Cup title and AFC continental competitions after a long hiatus. We wish him the best in his future endeavors,” Vibhash Vardhan Agarwal of Emami Group said in a statement on Monday.
The Spaniard joined East Bengal in April 2023, signing a two-year contract. The Red & Gold brigade finished a disappointing ninth in the standings at the end of ISL 2023-24 with six wins as many draws and 10 defeats.
The ISL 2024-25 has started on a terrible note for East Bengal as they have tasted defeat in each of their first three matches, losing to Bengaluru FC, Kerala Blasters and FC Goa. They are currently 11th in the 12-team competition.
