“Well, let me say this as clearly as I can—I’m staying in the race. I’ll beat Donald Trump. I will beat him again in 2020,” the US president said
In yet another slip of the tongue, US President Joe Biden on Friday vowed to beat his Republican rival Donald Trump “again in 2020” instead of saying 2024. He quickly corrected himself, saying he would do it “again in 2024.”
“Well, let me say this as clearly as I can—I’m staying in the race. I’ll beat Donald Trump. I will beat him again in 2020,” the US president said, before realising his mistake during a campaign rally in Madison, Wisconsin.
He immediately corrected himself, saying, “I am going to do that again in 2024.”
The video of the slip has gone viral on social media platform X. The video was shared by ‘The Spectator Index’ on its X handle with the caption, “Biden says he will beat Trump ‘again in 2020.’”
‘First Black Woman To Serve With A Black President’
During a recent interview with a radio channel, Biden called himself America’s “first black woman to serve with a black president,” seemingly confusing his role with that of Vice President Kamala Harris. This claim was made during an interview with Philadelphia’s Wurd radio station.
“By the way, I’m proud to be the, as I said, the first vice president, first black woman, served with a black president, proud of the first black woman in the Supreme Court,” Biden stated in the interview.
These missteps have fuelled ongoing concerns about his cognitive decline, prompting calls for him to withdraw from the 2024 reelection race.
‘Only Lord Almighty’ Can Drive Him Out Of Presidential Race’
However, in a television interview on Friday, Biden has dismissed concerns about his health and doubts about his reelection bid in November, brushing off a poor performance in the presidential debate as a “bad episode” and insisting that only “the Lord Almighty” could persuade him to exit the race.
In the 22-minute high-stakes interview on ABC News aimed at quelling a burgeoning rebellion in the Democratic Party, Biden, who is seeking a second term, said he had “a bad night” and was “exhausted” and “sick” during his first presidential debate with Trump. He asserted that only the “Lord Almighty” could make him drop out of the race to win the November 5 election.
The interview came a week after his disastrous debate performance in Atlanta against his rival Trump. The debate led some Democratic Party leaders to urge him to step down and his approval rating to plummet.
