Ajay Devgn has been one of the most consistent box office performers of Hindi Cinema. His films have usually opened well despite the final fate of the film – showcasing his star power. But his latest offering, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, co-starring Tabu and directed by Neeraj Pandey, comes across as an anomaly in his long and successful career.
Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha earned just Rs 6.75 crore over the weekend as per Sacnilk.And going by the records, this is Ajay’s lowest opening weekend collection in a decade. In the last 10 years, Ajay has delivered some of the biggest hits of his career like Golmaal Again and Drishyam 2 and some big misses like Action Jackson, Thank God and Runway 34. But even his misses have opened better than his latest love story.
In 2014 Ajay had 2 releases, Action Jackson which had a weekend collection of Rs 29.3 crore and Singham Returns which minted Rs 77.74 crore during the weekend. In 2015, Ajay delivered Drishyam with Rs 23.25 crore over the opening weekend and 2016 saw his directorial venture Shivaay hit the screens with an initial weekend collection of Rs 37.65 crore.
2017 again saw Ajay’s two releases with interesting opening weekend scores – Baadshaho earned Rs 43.3 crore and Golmaal Again which earned Rs 87.6 crore. In 2018, Ajay’s serious drama Raid earned Rs 40.98 crore over the opening weekend. In 2019 Ajay turned to comedy with De De Pyaar De, which earned Rs 37.24 crore during the weekend and Total Dhamaal, which minted 62.4 crore.Tanhaji: The Unsung Hero, was the biggest hit of 2020, right before pandemic brought a halt to its run. The film, in its first weekend, earned Rs 61.93 crore. After a long gap Ajay sat on director’s chair to make Runway 34 which earned Rs 14.8 crore during its opening weekend in 2022. He also had Thank God in the same year which released during Diwali on a Tuesday and its three day collection stood at Rs 18.25 crore. Next was Drishyam 2, which is Ajay’s biggest film till date, which earned Rs 64.14 crore in three days. In 2023 Ajay turned director once again with Bholaa, which delivered Rs 30.8 crore collection over three days and this year began with Shaitaan, which minted Rs 54 crore and Maidaan was at Rs 13 crore.
