The attack on former NCP corporator Vanraj Andekar, who was killed after allegedly being shot and assaulted with sharp weapons, has been captured on CCTV from the vicinity of the incident.

The footage shows at least 12-13 men arriving on six motorcycles. One individual, dressed in a yellow T-shirt and brandishing a chopper, can be seen leading the chase as his associates chased Andekar, who had fled inside his home.

The attack, which lasted barely a minute, ended with the assailants fleeing in different directions.

The incident took place on Sunday night around 8:30 pm near Doke Talim in Pune’s Nana Peth area, where Andekar was residing.

According to the police, Andekar was shot at least five times and also attacked with sharp weapons on his neck and head.

He was rushed to KEM Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. His body was taken to Sassoon General Hospital for an autopsy early Monday morning.

“Witnesses claim some shots were fired but Andekar succumbed to injuries inflicted on his head and neck by sharp weapons. An empty cartridge was found in the deceased’s clothing,” said Additional Commissioner of Police, Pravin Patil.

So far, three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder.

Additionally, the police suspect that a relative of Andekar, who was in his late 30s, orchestrated the attack over an ongoing dispute.

Andekar was previously associated with the Nationalist Congress Party (undivided) before the Pune civic body was brought under state administration.
