Abbas Tyrewala recalls how Aamir Khan bluntly rejected the idea of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na sequel: ‘The stupidest thing’
Filmmaker Abbas Tyrewala hasn’t stopped laughing about it even yet, recounting in detail his concept for a sequel to 2008’s romantic-comedy, ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.’
Sharing his sequel concept with Aamir Khan, who produced the original, Abbas Tyrewala threw at him a pretty shocking plot: Jai and Aditi, the lovable couple from the first film, are living apart, and Jai is having an affair with Meghna from the original.
Reminiscing about Aamir Khan’s response, Tyrewala said in an interview with Cyrus Broacha that even “I wasn’t very sure if he was serious about the idea.” However, Aamir’s response left no doubt. Abbas recalls Aamir bluntly refuting the idea by saying it was “the stupidest thing” he had ever heard. The incident, though a funny realization for Tyrewalla, brought into view Aamir Khan’s love for the legacy of the original film.
Talking about the starcasts the film ‘Jaane Tu… also featured Prateik Babbar, Manjri Fadnis, Murali Sharma, Ratna Pathak, Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Nirav Mehta, Alishka Varde, Karan Makhija and others in crucial roles.Also, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan also had special appearances in the film. The film was co-produced by Aamir Khan and Mansoor Khan.
Abbas is known for making his directorial debut with Imran Khan-Genelia Deshmukh starrer ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’ produced by Aamir Khan. He last directed ‘Jhootha Hi Sahi’ featuring John Abraham. In addition, Abbas is also credited for writing dialogues for several Bollywood films like ‘Bang Bang’, ‘War’, etc.
Earlier, he penned the dialogues for Siddharth Anand’s spy action-thriller ‘Pathaan’ which was produced by Aditya Chopra. The movie featured Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia, Ashuotsh Rana, Prakash Belawadi, Ekta Kaul, Manish Wadhwa and others in pivotal characters.
